Consumption without a contract
Did you consume energy without having a contract with an energy supplier? You will receive a bill from us. We explain why.

What is consumption without a contract?
When the previous occupant of an address moves out and cancels the energy contract, they submit meter readings for the final payment. The new occupant then moves in and arranges a contract with an energy supplier, which also involves submitting meter readings. Typically, the meter readings of the previous and new occupant are very similar. If they are not, this means energy has been consumed during the interim period without a contract.
How do you know who consumed the energy?
Our first step is always to investigate who is responsible for the consumption without a contract. It could be the new occupant or owner, but it might also be the previous occupant or owner. Based on the results of our investigation, we will send the bill to the person responsible for the energy consumption.
Why have I received a bill?
To consume electricity and/or gas, you need a contract with an energy supplier. You pay the energy supplier for your consumption of electricity and/or gas, as well as for our energy network charges. If you've received a bill from us for consumption without a contract, it means you consumed electricity and/or gas during a period when there was no active energy contract.
